Afternoon lunchtime run with Mike P.

First run post 1/2 marathon and was still feeling pretty sore, but wanted to get a run in to loosen up if nothing else. Felt pretty good considering and Mike and I kept it easy, putting in a 8:30 min/mile pace for the run.

Woodrow Wilson Bridge 1/2 Marathon

Great race, great morning. Started off really strong, putting in several 8 min or better miles. Felt good, legs were tight, but that is to be expected one week removed from another 1/2 marathon race! Got to the bridge and had a great pace going, but then got to the National Harbor and the hill to the back was really pretty steep and just enough to sap some energy out of me, until we then hit the path which is alternating between dirt and gravel (both suck to run fast on since your feet slip out from under you). So, pace stayed pretty decent, but had to work really hard to keep it that way, before finally getting to kick it in for the home stretch and was greeted by a cheering Cole, Betsy, Elana and Ronna! Even better, got to hang out in the sand with the Awakening statue afterwards! Now on to the Redskins vs. Texans Game!

Morning run with Cole

Got out for an easy run with Cole this morning, figured on going 4 or 5 miles to loosen up for the race tomorrow. Felt pretty tight to start and had an issue with the front wheel alignment on the jogging stroller being a bit off, but got going into a rhythm and kept a nice easy pace. Had a couple direction changes due to the fact that I couldn't avoid all the dogs, but that was ok, ended up getting me out for a 5 miler, keeping a 8:23 min/mile pace.

Mtn Bike Ride that Almost wasn't

I woke up feeling pretty rough with a really bad side stitch and figured running this morning wasn't in the cards, so I got my stuff together to go mountain biking after work. Of course, as the day progressed it became quite apparent that the weather was turning sour. I had a decision to make, go anyway, or call it off; I decided to go anyway. Good decision, never got more than an easy drizzle, and had my best mountain bike ride ever! Finished just under 11 mph for the course, with my previous best being 10.7 mph. Felt strong the whole way, losing just a bit of what I had the final mile or so...

9/14-Late Run with Mike P.

Ugh... rough run. Felt ok, but never great. Once again this stupid heart rate monitor started jumping all over the place, don't know what is going on with it. Either way, had an ok run, kept a nice easy pace, right around 8:20, finishing in 50:51 before getting back to stretch out in the shower and head back to work. Looking forward to the next 1/2 marathon this weekend.

9/11 - Abebe Bikili 1/2 Marathon.

Planned on putting in an an 8 min/mile effort to start and then after the turn around if I felt up for it push a bit. Felt pretty good initially, starting off running with Mike P, then off on my own and settled into a nice rhythm. Did feel good at the turn around and then put in a bit more effort, however, that effort only kept my time where it was... Apparently pushing was all that kept me on my easy pace. Never quite felt wonderful, but overall a good race considering I didn't get enough training in. Afterwards, enjoyed a great breakfast with Nabil and Carol at Clyde's...

2010 Efforts!

This year, like last year, I will be riding for Mary Payton's Miracle - My friend Steve Kogos from Trigators informed me that his friend Joe's daughter, Mary Payton, was diagnosed a number of years back with Late Infantile Batten Disease. This is a disease with no cure, however, there are special experimental (and extremely expensive) treatments which have shown some significant signs of success! In order to assist with the costly treatments and research, Mary Payton's Miracle was created to raise money to find a cure, hopefully in time to save little Mary Payton as well as the many others affected by this terrible disease!
